I love this post, Germy! I didn't realize it was you when I was reading it (directed here from @jayhmt) and was delighted to see it's YOU! I'm RT-ing it as humorlessly as possible! {{Love!}}

I typically tell people that the iPhone is the best phone I have ever owned. But I should probably provide better disclosure. I haven’t used a regular cell phone in years. Personally I have found that the convenience and function of a “smart” phone beats the limitations. I had 3 different type windows mobile phones and my wife had the Palm Treo before converting to the iPhone.

Windows Mobile doesn’t come with native Voice dial either and only one of my phones came packaged with free voice dial software. The free VD could pull up the right contact maybe 15% of the time even with multiple attempts. I bought MS voice command for $40 and that worked maybe 40-50% of the time. There are a few options for voice dial, but I do think the latest firmware may have broken the popular one. I was thinking about trying it, but had put it off since I had such bad exp with VD in WM. But it is much cheaper, so I think I will give it a shot at some point

I had far more software crashes and a thousand times more lockups requiring either a soft or hard reset. The need for a hard reset was such a frequent occurrence that I had to spend $25 on a backup program and that would keep a self executing backup on the Storage card. My wife’s palm locked up more then my windows mobiles and she didn’t even have any 3rd party apps installed.

I do think they need better controls for the Bluetooth. But I doubt there is much of a security risk; it’s a completely crippled Bluetooth stack. I guess it might be possible to hack it to open up the mic and listen in, but considering the distance limitations of Bluetooth, there would be easier ways to ease drop. My biggest complaint regarding Bluetooth is the lack of A2DP stereo profile, which seems like a no brainier for a device with music as a core function.

My biggest complaint about the phone, which like you and the keyboard, I knew going in, is the lack of copy/paste. The keyboard doesn’t really bother me. With my old HTC I had a big slide out keyboard, and even on that, it was such a pain to type, I rarely typed anything too long, and I was happy to trade screen size and thickness for slightly longer typing time. I’m not happy about the lack of codec support and flash. But I do think that will be addressed. You can use orb if you jailbreak, but I will wait for app store version, or similar function to be built into itunes. I used Orb a lot on my WM, but even with Version EVDO it wasn’t flawless, though I would still like to see a native client authorized client.

My battery holds up as well as any of my WM phone and the Treo. Not sure if I am lighter user but I easily get 16 hours. I typically have an hour commute each way and if I’m not on the phone I am listening to an audio book. I don’t make too many calls during the day, but do twitter/email/play music. I almost never use wifi, it was a battery hog on my WM phones as well.
